"Canal Morning" by Greg Freeman

Days after the deluge, calm returns to canal;
Cat basks, gazes on lilies; dinghy is at rest
Morning sun turns muddy surface green
As last of the downpour from Brookwood and St. Johns
Trickles through the Woodham flight
On to the river, out to the estuary.
No need for back-pumping,
The level won't drop, for a few days at least.
